E14 Light Bulbs at a Glance
The Compact Solution for Modern Lighting
Small base, versatile light: an E14 LED bulb is particularly suitable for luminaires with limited space and for delicate designs. The screw base measures 14 millimetres in diameter and is commonly used in table lamps, wall lights and bedside lamps as well as multi-light luminaires. The EGLO range combines compact dimensions with a wide variety of lighting effects. E14 LED bulbs are also commonly referred to simply as E14 bulbs or LED light bulbs with an E14 base. They are available in the classic candle shape, a rounded golf-ball shape, as flame-tip candle bulbs with a curved tip and as reflector bulbs for directional light. To make sure your E14 LED bulb is a good match for your luminaire, check the brightness, light colour, length, diameter, glass finish and dimmability.
E14 LED bulbs: shapes and features
Modern E14 LED bulbs replace traditional E14 incandescent bulbs and provide full brightness immediately after being switched on. One EGLO highlight is the range of highly efficient clear filament bulbs in energy efficiency class A. Available as a C35 candle and P45 golf-ball bulb, they combine a visible filament structure with warm white light. The highly efficient E14 models produce 470 lumens at 3,000 Kelvin and are designed for a service life of up to 50,000 hours. This makes them suitable for luminaires where the clear bulb remains visible and its slim shape forms part of the design.
Here is how to choose the right E14 LED bulb:
C35 candle shape: The slim, evenly tapered glass body is particularly well suited to chandeliers, wall lights and narrow lampshades.
P45 golf-ball shape: The compact, rounded shape requires little space and is suitable for small table lamps, ceiling lights and bedside lamps, among others.
CF35 flame-tip candle: The curved tip resembles a flame and adds a classic, decorative accent to open luminaires.
R50 reflector shape: The E14 LED reflector bulb has a reflective glass body measuring approximately 50 millimetres in diameter. It directs the light forwards. The EGLO version produces 320 lumens of warm white light at 2,700 Kelvin and is suitable for accent lighting, reading lamps or targeted illumination of individual areas.
Frosted or clear finish: Frosted bulbs distribute light softly and evenly. With clear filament LEDs, the illuminated filament remains visible, making them particularly suitable for open and decorative luminaires.
Amber filament bulbs: Candle and flame-tip candle shapes with 1,700 to 2,200 Kelvin create extra-warm light and emphasise the character of classic or nostalgic luminaires.
Decorative P45 spiral: In this golf-ball shape, the filament is arranged in a spiral. The amber version with 2,000 Kelvin creates a warm, golden effect, while the smoked-glass version combines the visible spiral filament with a modern grey tint. Both versions are primarily designed for atmospheric accents.
Other important selection criteria:
Brightness and lighting purpose: For decorative lighting or small table lamps, 100–350 lumens may be sufficient. 470 lumens is a versatile choice for many residential luminaires. Models with around 800 lumens provide more brightness when the compact E14 base is intended to contribute to general room lighting.
Light colour: 2,700–3,000 Kelvin produces a cosy warm white light. 2,200 Kelvin enhances a comfortable vintage effect, while 2,000 Kelvin provides particularly warm accent lighting in decorative spiral bulbs. Adjustable smart models cover a considerably wider white-light spectrum.
Space inside the luminaire: A P45 golf-ball bulb is shorter and rounder, while C35 and CF35 bulbs are slimmer and taller. With enclosed shades, always check the maximum permitted dimensions. With open luminaires, consider which shape best complements the design.
This way, you are not choosing an E14 LED bulb based on the base alone, but also according to the light distribution you want and the design of your luminaire.
Dimmable and smart E14 LED bulbs
A dimmable E14 LED bulb is suitable for rooms where the same luminaire serves different purposes. Soft light may be enough in the evening, while reading, getting dressed or eating may call for greater brightness. Not every E14 LED is automatically dimmable. With conventional models, both the bulb and the existing dimmer must be suitable for use with LEDs. Check the product specifications to see whether your chosen version is dimmable. For particularly flexible control, EGLO offers clear connect.z filament bulbs in P45 golf-ball and C35 candle shapes. Both versions can be dimmed via the EGLO app or remote control and offer continuously adjustable white tones ranging from a very warm 2,200 Kelvin to an invigorating 6,500 Kelvin. This means the same E14 LED can provide cosy light in the evening and a much clearer lighting effect during the day.
Living room and bedroom: warm, dimmed light for relaxing
Dining area: adjustable brightness and light colour for eating, working or spending time together
Hallway and entrance area: clear orientation lighting when needed and more subtle illumination later in the evening
With the right dimming or smart solution, compact E14 LED bulbs can therefore offer much more than simple on-and-off lighting.
FAQs
How bright should an E14 LED bulb be?
It depends on the luminaire and its lighting purpose. For decorative lighting and small table lamps, 100–350 lumens are often sufficient. 470 lumens is suitable for many typical residential luminaires, while around 800 lumens provides greater brightness for general room lighting.
What is the right light colour for an E14 LED bulb?
Warm white light at 2,700–3,000 Kelvin is suitable for living rooms, dining areas and bedrooms. Amber bulbs with 1,700 to 2,200 Kelvin and decorative spiral versions with 2,000 Kelvin create a particularly warm atmosphere. Smart connect.z models offer adjustable white tones from 2,200 to 6,500 Kelvin.
Are E14 LED bulbs dimmable?
Only models specifically labelled as dimmable can be dimmed. With a conventional dimmer, the bulb and dimmer must be compatible. Smart E14 connect.z filament bulbs can be dimmed and their light colour adjusted via an app or remote control.
What is the difference between C35, P45 and CF35?
C35 refers to a slim candle shape with a diameter of approximately 35 millimetres. P45 is a compact, rounded golf-ball shape with a diameter of around 45 millimetres. CF35 also has a slim candle-shaped body but ends in a curved tip reminiscent of a flame.
What is an E14 R50 reflector bulb used for?
The reflective R50 shape directs most of the light forwards. This makes it suitable for directional lighting, for example in reading lamps, small spotlights or for highlighting individual surfaces and objects.
Where are E14 bulbs typically used?
E14 bulbs are commonly used in table lamps and bedside lamps, wall lights, chandeliers, multi-light ceiling luminaires and other compact luminaires.
